Activities
Daily morning/ evening Yoga classes. There will be two different kinds of yoga classes. Below are some of the classes. Yin Yoga Yin and yang are relative terms, They describe the two facets of existence. Yin represents femininity and Yang represents masculinity. Like two sides of one coin, yin cannot exist without yang, nor yang without yin; They complement one other. Normally, the yang aspects are practiced in yoga which are the more rigorous forms of yoga like vinyasa and hatha. Yin Yoga is gentle slow-paced yoga, intended to allow the individual to tune into themselves through introspection, pranayama (breathing techniques), meditation and gentle yet challenging poses to ease the mind, body, and spirit. Yin yoga allows us to work with our feminine energy, and it targets parts of the body that yang yoga may not. Yin yoga targets our joints, deeper tissues, and even our bones. Adding a yin or quieter aspect to our practice can introduce us to physical/emotional/mental equilibrium. Hatha Yoga Daily morning/ evening Hatha Yoga Classes. Hatha Yoga is a traditional yoga practice that combines a set of physical asanas (yoga postures) and breathing techniques. Vinyasa Yoga Flow through a vinyasa practice Silent & Guided Meditations With a group of like minded and melanated yoginis, you will explore self enlightenment, freedom and inner peace. Our meditations are there to guide you to a higher level of consciousness that promotes a spirit filled with vitality. We want you to vibrate higher into a space of peacefulness that is motivated by the calmness of the true treasure of yoga: pranayama. By entering into a daily meditative practice, we hope to guide each other away from the myopic shackles of a modern racist society and into the peacefulness of spiritual knowledge. Bon Fire Dance, play, stretch , share stories around Bon fire night. Waterfall Excursion A guide will guide the you through the waterfall known as Reach Falls, you will visit the different pools in the waterfall, you can also explore the waterfall cages. You will hike through the waterfalls, you will climb on rocks and hike on hills in the gorgeous waterfall. You do not need to know how to swim to attend. This is adventture intertwined with a Beautiful, refreshing, rejuvenating experience. Reach falls is known as one of Jamaica's most beautiful natural waterfall, it is centered on an exotic waterfall cascading down a rock face into an emerald river pool. The lush greenery from the Montane Forrest and the refreshing pool beneath the cascading waterfall promises a memorable experience. Reach Falls features a natural heart-shaped Jacuzzi which invigorates the body with every stroke from the water rushing through the channel. Reach falls compared to other more famous waterfalls in Jamaica, stays unspoiled and not overfilled with tourists, so you will have a chance to enjoy them in peace. Silent Time There will be periods of silent time during the retreat. During silent time the women will tune into theirown energy. The goal of silent time is to allow the women to self-reflect and to relax the mind without any distractions. This is a meditative retreat so we practice calmness and allowing ourselves to tune within. Live Cultural Experience During this experience, you'll learn about Jamaican culture. There will also be Jamaican drummers and dancers who will talk about the music and history of Jamaica. |
Workshops
There will be 2 workshops during the retreat, workshops are formed as group discussions. The following list is an example of some of those workshops. Exploring the Yamas When we connect with yoga we connect with our higher selves. Yoga is a practice that can not only heal our body's but our minds and spirits The Yamas of yoga are ways that we interact with our selves and our world. They are some of the greatest spiritual tools of yoga. In this workshop yoginis will break down different definitions and keys to each Yama to create healthier lives on and off the mat. Journey Through the Chakras The Chakras are an ancient system for understanding energy centres in the physical and spiritual body. This workshop will include education on the energetic chakra system, specific yoga postures, and essential oils to open, awaken and balance each of your chakras. The 8 Limbs of Yoga The ‘eight limbs’ or ‘eight parts’ refer to eight different aspects of the yoga practice defined by the great sage Patañjali as a method for reaching the “state” of yoga. This ‘state’ of yoga is interpreted as the leading of a meaningful and purposeful life. The eight limbs each offer guidance and approaches on how to live such a life. In this workshop , you'll explore each of the 8 Limbs of Yoga. The eight steps along this path provide moral, ethical, and self disciplines that allow for one to achieve purity of mind and body and radiant health. It is believed that through continuous practice and dedication to these steps, you will reach unity with the Divine, or Samadhi. The Philosophy & History of Yoga In this workshop there will be exploration of what we know about the evolution of practice from the distant past to the present day. The meaning of true yoga, the colonization of yoga, and how yoga can heal the mind, body and spirit of each individual. Yoga as Medicine Practice observing bodies, study breathing patterns, analyzing doshas (body-mind types as described in ancient Ayurvedic medicine), and tailoring personalized therapeutic yoga practices. Lectures, yoga practices, writing exercises and guided meditations complement this workshop. all activities may be subject to change |

Centuries of yogic research has concluded that yoga prescribes derived from stretching, relaxation, deep breathing, and increasing circulation and concentration. By learning to control the body, we can easily train the mind, and it is after one learns how to concentrate the mind, that one discovers all of its hidden facets and awakens the inner spirituality.
Reviews From Past Participants
“See in DC/ NYC/ATL there are few yoga studios, where instructors actually took the time to adjust me. I never opt out of adjustments but I can count on one hand, the amount of hands on adjustments I received in 10 years of practice and hundreds of classes.
It’s gotten to the point where every practice, without fail, i tense when teachers make their rounds thru the room. Will they adjust me? Am i smaller and more feminine today to be adjusted like the girl beside me? Is my practice deep enough for the teacher to press my back, just a bit, to go even deeper? Did I speak before class? Did I wear the right sports bra? I came here for help, (with my practice, with my body, with my breathing, with my motherfuckin mindset). And every class I wonder, will this teacher, help me?
I’m in Costa Rica. I’m at Black Women’s Yoga Retreat. The teacher, says- ‘move your legs to the left, your arm and head to the right
The teacher is making her rounds between us like a loving general. In front of me she inches my hip a bit forward, she takes my shoulders, just an inch back. And I don’t care who you are- if you’ve taken any yoga class you know one adjustment can be the difference between sinking or swimming, easy and challenge, favorite pose and oh my goddess! What is that stretch in my thigh!? I ain’t never felt that before!
In Costa Rica, this summer, Black Women Yoga Retreats touched me. In Costa Rica, this summer, every single 3 time a day practice, in the heat, in the rain, I never had to wonder.
That’s what happens at a Black Women Yoga Retreat, Thank you so much”

“The Black Women Yoga Retreat was by far the best retreat and trip i have had to date. i was at a point where i needed to not only take care of myself, but I had to do some reevaluations of some decisions and some people in my life. this retreat allowed me the time and space to reflect , journal, breathe, and enjoy nature with phenomenal black women. each woman i met brought something unique to the retreat, and to my experience. I am thankful for the opportunity to gain a much deeper understanding of the practice. i don’t think my life will ever be the same. thank you so much Satya X."
