1. How do I get to Black Women Healing Retreats?DO i NEED TRAVEL INSURANCE?
Black Women Healing Retreats take place in the gorgeous Caribbean of Costa Rica. Flight, Shuttle Service & Travel Arrangements is not included. We recommend all guests practice personal responsibility by getting travel insurance when booking their flight.
Travel insurance is not mandatory however we highly recommend you do purchase it, particularly during this climate and/or if you have a pre-existing condition. If you choose to do so, we suggest that you add “cancel for any reason” or “cancel for work reasons” to your policy.
Although normal trip cancellation will cover you for illness or injury, or for a travel companion’s illness, injury or death, it is limited to these. With “cancel for any reason” you will receive a percentage (usually 75%-100%) of all pre-paid costs. With this coverage if something comes up, a wedding, a new job opportunity, virus outbreak etc. or if the organizers have to cancel due to weather, staff injury or illness or other unforeseen reasons, you will be covered. *This option needs to be purchased within 15 days of your trip deposit. We suggest using the below tool for its easy user interface and comparison tool to choose the best insurance that suits your needs.

1. WHO CAN ATTEND THE WOMEN OF COLOR HEALING RETREAT?
RETREAT REQUIREMENTS The Black Women Healing Retreat is specifically for Black Americans to practice healing, wellness, self-love, and liberation. You must be 21 and over to attend. You do not need any experience in yoga to attend. However, our Black Women Yoga & Meditation Retreat has different requirements and it is for all black women across the diaspora. These sacred sanctuaries have been created with you in mind!
2. IS THE BLACK WOMEN HEALING RETREAT FOR ME, WHATS ALLOWED AT THE RETREAT? Black Women Healing Retreats is for you if:
You are an American Black Woman.
You are interested in trying a healthier way of living.
You enjoy trying new experiences.
You have a go with the flow attitude.
Come to cocoon yourself.
You are ready to unplug from your phone and be present.
Black Women Healing Retreats is not for you if:
You are looking to party.
You are looking to drink. We abstain from alcohol and partying throughout the retreats. This abstinence will be in effect whether guests are in the retreat, or are enjoying some well needed personal time. However on the last day of the retreat, guest will be able to have wine as an option at our farewell dinner. Our goal for the alcohol cleanse during the retreat is to cleanse the vessel, this will ensure a meditative and rejuvenating experience.
You are not open to trying a completely new experience. ~Must show up with an open mind and heart.~
You will need to smoke cigarettes/tobacco on a daily basis.
You are not good at responding to emails timely. All guest are required to reply to emails within 48 hours.
IMPORTANT: Note that Black Women Healing Retreats is NOT personal therapy or a detoxification program from recreational or pharmaceutical drugs.
Most of our faculty members are not trained psychiatrist and do not carry clinical backgrounds in PTSD, addiction or other mental health concerns. If you have a history of PTSD, addiction or other mental health concerns, it is important that you arrive to our program in a stable state with the intention of using the retreat for self regulation, personal healing & spiritual growth.
During the retreat, you will spend a lot of time in silence, in nature, in meditation and with the gentle practice of yin yoga. You will go on adventures, experience educational workshops, eat nourishing food and you will be able to be completely open in this space of sisterhood. You will be invited to lean on these holistic healing tools to support your healing and internal process. If you are seeking personal or clinical therapy then this retreat is not for you. We look forward to meeting you!

3. WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE BLACK WOMEN YOGA & MEDITATION RETREAT, BLACK WOMEN SELF CARE RETREAT AND BLACK WOMEN HEALING RETREATS?
Black Women Yoga & Meditation Retreatis a retreat dedicated to black women. It is all about developing a relationship with one's yoga and meditation practice. For many, yoga is known to be a physical practice solely, but yoga goes beyond the physical. Yoga is the connection of the mind, body, and spirit. Our Yoga classes incorporate spirituality, pranayama, and additional aspects of yoga. Our intensive yoga retreat features workshops that encourage women to deepen their yoga practice. Our retreats are designed for both beginners to yoga and meditation as well as students who have practiced for many years.
Black Women Self-Care Retreats is a retreat dedicated to black women. It is in an exclusive intimate setting where a group of women are hosted. Rather than a retreat center, the women stay in a big, beautiful jungle house, where they share meals at a communal table and curl up with a good book, on the sofa after a sweet day at the beach. You can expect gentle yoga practices, nourishing plant-based meals, group sharing, and self-peace on the tropical beaches in the Caribbean. You do not need any experience in yoga or meditation to attend. There will be plenty of leisure time where you can explore the beautiful Caribbean of Costa Rica or take some well-needed rest time. This retreat is dedicated to women that want to have some well- deserved quiet time.
Black Women Healing Retreats is a retreat dedicated to black women. During this retreat, women enjoy enrichment-centered workshops by expert workshop facilitators, eat nourishing meals, go on hikes, zip line, take surf lessons, practice yoga, and meditation daily, and more. Yoga is an ancient healing tool scientifically proven to heal depression and anxiety. While yoga is a key component to all of our retreats, experience in yoga is not required to attend the WCHR. The Women Of Color Healing Retreat is a large retreat, as opposed to an intimate setting. Additionally, this retreat takes place in a gorgeous eco-friendly lodge in the Caribbean of Costa Rica. This retreat is a setting where black women can be their authentic selves surrounded by those who share their experiences.
4. DOES BLACK WOMEN HEALING RETREATS BELIEVE IN THERAPY?
Black Women Healing Retreats and all of its co-sister retreats believes in all forms of natural and holistic healing from reiki, yoga, meditation, and more; we also find those with mental health concerns can use natural healing methods, and they can also use clinical techniques such as therapy/psychiatry.
5. DO I HAVE TO BE PLANT-BASED TO ATTEND THIS RETREAT, DO YOU HAVE ANY RECOMMENDATIONS ON EXPLORING VEGANISM THROUGHOUT THE RETREAT?
You do not have to be vegan to attend! Black Women Healing Retreats is a vegan and pescatarian — all meals are made with quality ingredients. On some days, you will have fresh fish from the Caribbean, and other days the meals will be entirely plant-based. All meals are delicious! During the retreat, we abstain from alcohol. If you are unable to go without drinking alcohol, this retreat is not for you. This abstinence will be in effect whether guests are in the retreat, or are enjoying some well needed personal time. 6. IS MY DEPOSIT DEDUCTIBLE FROM THE TOTAL RETREAT FEE?
Yes. The deposit is deductible from the retreat fee.
7. WHAT ABOUT MY HAIR, I KNOW THAT WE WILL HAVE THE CHANCE TO GO TO THE OCEAN, WHAT SHOULD I DO ?
We understand this question as our hair is so sacred and feminine! It is entirely your decision. However, keep in mind that this is a retreat where we get our hair wet! Feel free to wear makeup or not. It’s completely up to you, sis! Whatever feels best for you!
8. HOW MUCH SPENDING MONEY SHOULD I BRING?
We recommend bringing $350 or more for spending during your time in Costa Rica, you may also want to purchase souvenirs.
9. HOW DO I GET AROUND IN COSTA RICA DURING MY FREE TIME AT THE RETREAT?
Guests attending the Black Women Healing Retreat can take taxi's to get around. Taxi's are approximately $5-$10 to get around Playa Chiquita.
10. IS BLACK WOMEN HEALING RETREATS A FEMINIST MOVEMENT?
Black Women Healing Retreats centers the wellness, liberation and healing of black women, yet it is not a feminist movement.
11. WHO CAN ATTEND A BLACK WOMEN HEALING RETREATS? HOW OLD ARE THE WOMEN THAT ATTEND?

12. DO YOU HAVE QUIET TIME DURING THE RETREAT?
Absolutely! Throughout the retreats, we have silent hour or time, where guests tune into their energy to self-reflect without outside distractions. All rooms are shared. We discourage anyone from attending that seeks to consume alcohol or party during their time here.
13. IS MEDICINAL PLANT USE ALLOWED? IS CIGARETTES, ALCOHOL, OR TOBACCO ALLOWED?
Although we recognize marijuana as plant medicine, marijuana is not legal in Costa Rica; we will be unable to assist you with this. Cigarettes, Alcohol and Tobacco are not allowed within the retreat.
14. SHOULD I TRAVEL ALONE OR WITH FRIENDS?
The majority of our guest attend the retreat solo and they are able to meet new people at the retreat. Some of our guest attend with friends and family and they also are able to meet new people at the retreat.
15. DO I NEED EXPERIENCE IN YOGA OR MEDITATION?
You do not need experience in yoga to attend the Black Women Healing Retreat, just show up with an open mind and an open heart.
16. WHAT CAN I EXPECT AT THE BLACK WOMEN HEALING RETREATS?
Black Women Healing Retreats is a large retreat. You can expect meditative mornings, delicious, nourishing meals, quality time on the beaches in the Caribbean of Costa Rica. Expect a friendly, welcoming setting and well deserved rest and leisure time.
17. DO I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO SWIM TO PARTICIPATE?
You do not need to know how to swim to participate.
18. IS MY RETREAT REFUNDABLE?
BWHR , BWSC, BWYMR PHR and its subsidiary BWHRRetreats, Experiences and Events are non-refundable. We strongly suggest that clients purchase travel insurance for any cancelation reason. Refer toBooking Terms and Conditionsfor more information. We offer one-time transfers - please see terms and conditions for additional details. Clients will be responsible for the price differential if purchasing a more expensive product. There are no refunds if transferring to a less expensive product. 19. WHAT'S IT LIKE IN COSTA RICA?
Life in the jungle is unpredictable. The weather changes at the drop of a hat. Google never provides accurate weather for Costa Rica, its typically sunny throughout the day, and sometimes it may rain at night. Cleaning ants may decide to sweep through your living room floor, or a cockroach decides to land on your fruit. Costa Rica is not known for being particularly efficient in any process. Lines move slow. People might operate on “beach time” and be late, or you feel they are unreliable. Itinerary may be subject to change. We are in a different country, so we ask that you leave any united states expectations at home, and be open to a new experience!
20. IS IT POSSIBLE TO CHANGE AN ACTIVITY?
All activities are part of the Black Women Healing Retreat schedule and can not be changed or switched.
21. WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I BOOK THE BLACK WOMEN OF HEALING RETREAT?
Upon registration, you will receive a welcome message with general trip information.You will also recieve a document to sign within 48 hours. You will receive your invoice within 14 days of booking so that you can begin making payments on your trip. As the date of the retreat approaches over the next few months, you will receive emails on specifics relevant to your trip.
22. WHAT IS THE RETREAT ITINERARY?
We generally do not publish the schedule on our website, it is only for confirmed retreat attendees. However the activities listed on the main page will be included in our itinerary, barring any changes not under our control.
23. CAN KIDS ATTEND THE RETREAT?
Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate kids.
24. WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO THE BLACK WOMEN OF HEALING RETREAT?

25. WHAT ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES CAN BE BOOKED AT BLACK WOMEN HEALING RETREATS?
Below is a list of additional activities that can be booked at the Women Of Color Healing Retreats. Additional activities are not included.
During the Black Women Healing Retreats there is Free WIFI to all guests. WIFI is available in the main lodge and eating area at all hours of the day. Do keep in mind though that the internet is not as reliable as other developed areas of the world and it is NOT in your bungalow.
27. DO I NEED VACCINATIONS?
Vaccinations are not required to enter Costa Rica.
28. WHAT CURRENCY SHOULD I USE?
The local currency is Colones however Costa Rica also accepts US dollars. Upon your arrival you will receive an email that will teach you how to count the local currency. In the area there are a couple banks and a few ATM machines.
