Grief Healing For Black Women Retreat aims to provide a safe, affirming, empowering, and supportive space for Black women to explore and navigate the complex process of grieving after the death of a loved one. In the face of someone's death, we sometimes slip into a state of silence, depression, and destruction, which can perpetuate internal suffering stemming from immense grief in response to the death of a loved one, someone you know, or even the thought of you or someone dying.
In this 4 week Grief Healing For Black Women Retreat , you will be able to understand death, grief, and acceptance. Together you will discuss notions about death and grief and journey into healing practices, to heal after the death of a loved one.

Retreat Schedule
Week 1
Acknowledging and Validating Grief
In this session, participants will be encouraged to share their personal experiences of grief, recognizing that their grief is valid and deserving of acknowledgment. The facilitator will guide discussions on the various emotional, physical, and cognitive responses to grief. Additionally, the session will focus on the cultural context of grief for Black women, addressing how societal expectations and stereotypes may impact their grieving process. By sharing stories and providing a supportive atmosphere, participants will be reassured that their grief experiences are both unique and valid.
Week 2
Coping Strategies for Grief
This session will emphasize the importance of self-care and emotional well-being during the grieving process. Participants will explore self-care practices tailored to the specific needs of Black women, taking into account the intersection of their gender, culture, and grief. Building a support network will also be discussed, including strategies for seeking support from friends, family, and community. The session will explore the benefits of support groups or therapy, providing participants with resources to help them find and engage in meaningful support systems. Additionally, the facilitator will highlight the significance of rituals and traditions, sharing culturally relevant mourning practices that can serve as a source of comfort and healing.

Navigating Complicated Grief
This session will focus on understanding complicated grief, which refers to a prolonged, intense, or challenging grieving process that may impact mental and emotional health. The facilitator will define complicated grief and discuss the potential risk factors and warning signs. The intersection of trauma and grief will also be explored, acknowledging that many may experience grief within the context of broader traumatic experiences. Participants will engage in discussions and activities that highlight healing modalities tailored to their unique experiences. Additionally, information and resources on seeking professional help for complicated grief will be provided to ensure participants have access to the support they may need.

Honoring and Remembering Our Loved Ones
In this final session, participants will delve into the concept of legacy and remembrance, discussing the importance of preserving and honoring the memory of their loved ones. The facilitator will guide discussions on various ways to create lasting legacies that align with the participants' values and cultural traditions. Finding meaning in loss will be explored, highlighting how grief can be a catalyst for personal growth, resilience, and transformation. The session will emphasize the importance of reconnecting with joy and celebrating life, even amidst grief, and provide practical strategies for finding moments of happiness and peace. The workshop will conclude with an opportunity for participants to reflect on their personal journey throughout the series and provide additional resources for ongoing support and further learning.

About Sarrah Davis
Sarrah Allison Davis is a death doula who serves as a doula providing emotional, physical, educational, and spiritual support to assist families and individuals during the sacred passages of birth and death and to help enhance life in between. Sarah serves as a shepherd, and her purpose is to help people unlearn social conditioning, social control practices, and programmed fear, especially within the realms of birth and death. In addition to being a death doula, she is also a birth doula and yoga and meditation teacher.
